FAQ for students

What is Tutor Hunt

Tutor Hunt`s primary focus is to bring tutors and students together. No matter what subject you want to learn, whether it is for an academic purpose or for your own self-advancement, we have the right tutor for your needs. For tutors looking to find students, we will help you obtain them for a sustainable income. Let them benefit from your knowledge and teaching expertise. For more details on how our website works, feel free to check out our About Page.

How much will the lessons cost me, and who do I make the payment to?

Tutor Hunt is completely free for both tutors and students. We have no sign up fees of any kind. The only payment that you will have to make is for the lessons you have, and these are paid directly to the tutor. Each tutor sets their own hourly rate, and these are clearly listed on their profile pages.

How much is tuition and who do I pay?

On our website, you can message any tutors you wish at no cost. Once you have found the right tutor for your needs, you can make the payment on our website. Many sites charge large, annual sign up fees or they take commission from the tutor, causing the tutor to increase their hourly rate-passing the charges onto you. Tutor Hunt ONLY charges you a one-time finder`s fee of £19.99 + VAT. This is the only fee you have to pay us for helping you find the right tutor. That alone helps us maintain our website and attract new tutors across the UK.

Our main purpose at Tutor Hunt is to bring both students and tutors together. However, the tutors are self-employed so they can decide on their own communication efforts. Perhaps the tutor already has a full schedule. In any case, don`t be discouraged. The perfect tutor is out there. It is always best to message at least 6-7 tutors to ensure you get good responses. Tutors have a response rate to help you gauge how quickly they will respond.

Who can see my personal details and documentation?

Your information cannot be viewed by any user, even tutors. Contact information is shown only to a tutor when you purchase their contact details. Your profile only displays your first name, town, subjects, hourly rates, availability, and comments about yourself. Only our verification team can view documentation to decide if it meets our criteria for approval.

Where do I find my messages from students?

Your messages are stored in "My Inquiries." Be sure that you are logged in first. Click on "Members Area," followed by "My Inquiries." You will be able to read any messages you have sent, as well as messages received from students.

If my student doesn`t message me, what do I do?

Students can decide whether to choose you or not. Therefore, you can try to improve your profile to get more messages. Maybe your hourly rate is too high or you don`t travel far enough. Also, ensure that you have uploaded documentation that includes your qualifications, your ID, etc. Many times, those forms of documentation increase your chances of being chosen. Don`t worry too much about it or give up. There are many students out there that can benefit from your teaching skills and expertise. To help improve your chances, you can view what students have looked at your profile by clicking "Who Found Me?" within your account area. This tool gives you the opportunity to reach out and contact them.

Will my message still be received by a student if I decide not to accept them?

Yes, your messages always get sent. When you choose not to accept a student, it only stops them from being able to purchase your contact details. Tutor Hunt recommends that you find out more information about the student`s requirements before accepting to work with them.

Am I required to have a CRB/DBS?

If you have a CRB/DBS certificate, it is best and strongly encouraged that you upload it to your profile to strengthen and build your credibility. You want to make your profile as appealing as possible to students, as well as parents of students.

How do I obtain a CRB/DBS?

A CRB/DBS cannot be obtained directly and can only be obtained through an employer. We are aware that this prevents many tutors from having it. Therefore, your profile will still be active whether you have one or not. If you will be tutoring students 18 years of age or under, please ensure that a parent or guardian is present.

What CRB/DBS do we accept?

Tutor Hunt accepts English and Scottish Enhanced CRB/DBS certificates.

How do I upload my documents?

To upload all your documentation, click on "Members Area" and then "Verification." Make sure the documentation is readable! To become a verified tutor, you must upload relevant documents like your ID, qualifications, and DBS.

Tutor Hunt takes privacy and your personal data very seriously. We are registered with the Information Commissioner`s Office and encrypt all personal documents that you upload to our servers. Only the admin team can view your uploaded documents, in order to approve or deny your application. Your docs are never shown to any user on Tutor Hunt, period.

How can I add articles?

Writing your own articles and uploading them helps boost your profile! To get ideas on what to write about, you can visit our "Resources" page. Please note that the content MUST be your work and not copied in any form from other sources. To add an article, click the "Members Area" and then "Articles." Files and pictures cannot be uploaded. Therefore, the content must be pasted on the page.

How do I edit subjects and my rates?

To edit subjects and rates, go to the members area and click "My Subjects." There will be a pen and paper icon that directs you to the correct page for making your adjustments.

A note will appear on your profile page stating that you are unavailable. To deactivate your account on a temporary basis, visit the member`s home page and click on "Privacy," followed by "Profile Status" to change your account to inactive. When you need to reactivate, simply follow the same steps, but select the option to reactivate your account.
